OpenShift Systems Engineer | DevOps & Automation Focus

Location: Hybrid (4 days remote / 1 day onsite in Denver, CO)

Team Size: 10 (2 direct teammates)

Employment Type: Contract - W2

We're seeking a skilled and passionate OpenShift Systems Engineer to help lead our transformation from VMware to OpenShift Container Platform (OCP). This is a unique opportunity to be part of the first team fully migrating to OpenShift in our organization, shaping the future of our infrastructure in a dynamic development and lab environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage OpenShift (v4.12+) clusters, with a strong focus on on-prem environments.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using OpenShift and GitLab CI.
  • Automate cluster provisioning and maintenance using Ansible, Helm, and other tools.
  • Monitor and optimize cluster performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot across infrastructure, platform, and container layers.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and development teams to support containerized workloads and microservices.
  • Document architecture, configurations, and migration processes.
  • Provide mentorship and knowledge transfer to internal teams.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years as a Systems Administrator or Cloud Engineer.
  • Deep hands-on experience with OpenShift OCP (v4.12+ preferred).
  • Strong background in VMware vSphere and virtualized on-prem workloads.
  • Proficiency in automation tools like Ansible and Helm.
  • Experience with CI/CD workflows and DevOps practices.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Cloud platform experience.
  • Broader systems administration background.
  • Exposure to OpenShift Virtualization.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Self-driven with a collaborative mindset.
  • Passion for automation, scalability, and operational excellence.
