Job Title: Pharmacy Floor Technician
Job Description
The Pharmacy Floor Technician supports safe and efficient pharmacy operations by accurately filling, labeling, scanning, and preparing prescriptions for final verification by a pharmacist. This role works an afternoon and evening schedule, ensuring timely order fulfillment, proper handling of returned medications, and adherence to all regulatory and departmental policies. The position is ideal for a licensed Texas pharmacy technician who is detail-oriented, comfortable working at a moderate pace, and committed to maintaining high standards of accuracy and patient safety.
Responsibilities
- Fill daily drug orders accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Pick, label, scan, and otherwise prepare finished prescriptions for final verification by a pharmacist.
- Assist in processing returned medications and recycle or dispose of them according to established procedures.
- Prepack frequently ordered medications, label them correctly, and store them appropriately during low-volume periods.
- Package materials and products manually, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Pull and pick medications from shelving, prepack racks, and other medication storage areas as needed.
- Apply labels to blister cards and scan products to verify accuracy.
- Alert the pharmacist on duty to any medication or product that does not scan properly or appears incorrect.
- Maintain designated workstation areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Replenish stock and supplies at workstations to ensure continuous workflow.
- Follow all applicable government regulations, including HIPAA, to protect patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Comply with departmental policies regarding safety, attendance, and dress code.
- Work overtime, holidays, and weekends as required or expected to meet operational needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support pharmacy operations and patient care.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possess and maintain a clear and active Texas Pharmacy Technician License issued by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
- Pharmacy technician certification (Pharm Tech cert / CPhT) as required for licensure and role expectations.
- Ability to work at a moderate speed while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to follow instructions and process medication orders.
- Basic data entry skills to support prescription processing and inventory tasks.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion and perform tasks that require standing or sitting for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to handle medications, blister cards, labels, and packaging materials.
- Visual acuity, including close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus, to read labels and verify medications.
- Ability to hear normal voice sounds to communicate effectively with pharmacists and team members.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous pharmacy technician experience in a retail, mail-order, or healthcare setting.
- Experience working with pharmacy inventory, fulfillment, and compounding processes.
- Customer service skills to interact professionally with pharmacy staff and other stakeholders.
- Familiarity with pharmacy data entry systems and workflows.
- Understanding of healthcare and pharmacy operations, including medication handling and storage requirements.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance in all pharmacy activities.
Work Environment
This role follows a schedule of approximately 3:30 p.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday, with rotating every-other-weekend coverage. Overtime, holidays, and weekend work may be required based on operational needs. The position is based in a pharmacy environment where the technician may sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently throughout the day and may sit or stand for 7 to 10 hours per shift. The work requires frequent use of hands and fingers to operate office and pharmacy equipment, handle medications, and apply labels. The technician may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds and must have sufficient close and color vision, as well as the ability to adjust focus, to read fine print and verify medications accurately. Normal hearing is necessary to communicate with pharmacists and colleagues. The work environment includes standard pharmacy fixtures such as shelving, prepack racks, medication storage areas, and scanning and labeling equipment. Team members are expected to comply with all safety procedures, departmental attendance standards, and the established dress code while working in a professional, regulated healthcare setting.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Berlin, CT.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
