Job Description
As an R&D Technician, you will be responsible for fabricating polymer composites and adhesively bonded test samples, performing lab tests, and organizing and communicating test data and results. This position requires exceptional technical, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Familiarity with testing and characterization techniques for polymer composites, adhesives, and elastomers is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate polymer composites and adhesively bonded test samples.
- Perform various lab tests including tensile testing and heat treating.
- Analyze samples using image analysis software and other techniques.
- Organize and communicate test data effectively.
- Document findings and manage large datasets in Excel.
- Collaborate with engineers to fulfill work requests and improve testing processes.
Essential Skills
- Associate's Degree in Science (e.g., Engineering, Physics, Machining, Materials).
- Internship or 6+ months of experience in a manufacturing or lab environment.
- Proficiency in Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with polymer composites, adhesives, and elastomers.
- Experience with SAP is advantageous.
- Skill in engineering assistance, database management, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of metrology, materials testing, and materials engineering.
- Experience with machining and analytical testing is a plus.
Work Environment
This role requires working onsite five days a week in a dynamic lab environment. Flexible start and stop times are offered, allowing early or late shifts as long as a 40-hour workweek is maintained. The dress code is business casual, and safety shoes are required and can be expensed. The worksite is located in the D building near the badging area. The position offers a long-term duration of 36 months, with the potential for permanent employment after 12 months. The team is dedicated to making significant contributions to the safety and durability of commercial and military engines, offering a rewarding work experience in the aerospace industry.
