Overview


A well-established organization in Hartford, CT is seeking a skilled Accounting Manager to join their finance team. This role reports directly to the VP of Finance and is responsible for overseeing core accounting operations, managing a team of five, and ensuring compliance and accuracy across financial processes. The position is full-time, onsite, with a standard 35-hour work week (Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm).


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily accounting operations including payroll, accounts payable/receivable, general ledger entries, and month/year-end close processes.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures aligned with organizational needs.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of financial reporting tools and systems.
  • Review and approve cost allocations, depreciation, and accrual entries.
  • Oversee payroll processing and timekeeping systems, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Serve as the primary contact for payroll-related vendor communications, including wage garnishments.
  • Prepare and reconcile payroll journal entries with third-party provider data.
  • Stay informed on payroll-related laws and regulations.
  • Provide financial insights and reporting to senior leadership.
  • Hire, train, and mentor accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team.
  • Continuously improve accounting systems and workflows for efficiency and accuracy.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.
  • Proven experience managing accounting teams and supervising staff.
  • Hands-on experience with payroll processing and compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
  • Proficiency in financial software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with budgeting, auditing, and cost allocation.
  • Familiarity with accounting software platforms.
  • Knowledge of federal and state funding regulations.
  • Experience with payroll system transitions is a plus.
Compensation:$35.16
