Job Title: Plant OperatorJob Description

We are seeking a dedicated Plant Operator to join our team in New Haven. In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and controlling process equipment, as well as performing mechanical maintenance throughout the water pollution control plant. You will work closely with experienced operators to become adept in both departments within the facility.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect and maintain process equipment.
  • Perform mechanical maintenance tasks such as greasing equipment, changing belts, and performing oil changes in gearboxes.
  • Handle the receipt of supply shipments.
  • Maintain detailed records of plant operations, including hourly operating data, plant violations, and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Perform fire guard duty and confined space watch.
  • Engage in general housekeeping tasks to ensure a safe, clean, and efficient operation, including sweeping and shoveling.
Essential Skills
  • Mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in areas such as construction, automotive, or mechanical work.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • Willingness to work varying shifts, including overtime, holidays, on-call duty, and emergency call-ins.
  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills, including the ability to read a tape measure and use hand tools.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructional manuals, technical data, work orders, and mechanical drawings in English.
  • Physical capability to perform duties at heights up to 20 feet.
  • Proficiency in using industrial forklifts/man lifts, hand, and power tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and move about all areas of the plant.

Work Environment

The plant operates 24/7/365, with shifts split between six operators. You will initially work 2nd or 3rd shift, with potential to move to 1st shift. Shifts are on a 6-week block schedule, with 4 days on and 2 days off. The dress code is practical, requiring work pants/jeans and T-shirts without rips, holes, or explicit language. Steel-toed work boots are mandatory.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Haven, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.04 - $24.04/hr.
