Job Title: Automotive Quality Engineer
Job Description
Ensure the correct use of advanced quality planning and engineering to enhance quality, reliability, and acceptance of systems, processes, and products. Provide a professional level of quality customer service to both internal and external customers and suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Monitor the performance of product quality and reliability systems.
- Assist and coordinate Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) disciplines such as Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Process Control Plan (PCP), Process Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (PFMEA), Process Flow Chart (PFC), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Measurement System Analysis (MSA) / Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility (GR&R), Metrology Inspection Methods and Strategies, Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and Problem Solving using the 8-D and 3 Why methodology.
- Generate and maintain accurate documentation relating to quality, reliability, and process.
- Implement prevention/detection systems to eliminate problems affecting quality and reliability.
- Prepare and present PPM (parts per million) reports, cost of quality reports, and other metrics reports.
- Develop and implement quality programs, including tracking, analyzing, reporting, and problem-solving.
- File all Quality paperwork accurately, including customer complaints, control plans, quality alerts, and weekly logs.
- Take an active part in training and helping others as required and participate in continuous improvement teams.
- Participate in pre-production activities as a quality representative.
- Complete Quality System audits of supplier on-site, follow-up audit, and corrective action.
- Issue supplier non-conformance and follow-up corrective action, and problem-solving with suppliers.
- Coordinate Management Review process.
- Assist in supplier evaluations for on-site audits.
- Provide support for Quality Assurance Manager.
- Use a computer to accurately enter all company-required information for data collection.
- Safely operate all required lifting/moving devices.
- Attend all company-specified training as required.
- Participate in continual improvement.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Comply with Safety Expectations.
- Ensure regular and punctual attendance at work.
- Comply with relevant policies, procedures, and instructions, including Code of Conduct.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Essential Skills
- Quality engineering expertise.
- Proficiency in blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation.
- Experience with ISO 9001 and IATF16949 documentation systems.
- ASQ or CQE certification.
- AIAG Disciplines proficiency.
- BS in Engineering or other technical discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in a Quality Department within a manufacturing environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) preferred.
- Experience in the automotive industry is preferred.
- Basic understanding of performing dimensional inspections of metallic components using standard metrology equipment such as calipers, micrometers, pin gages, height gages, and indicators.
- Experience with CMMs, Keyence Vision Systems, or similar equipment is preferred.
Work Environment
This role may require occasional travel and involves working in a manufacturing environment. The position demands regular and punctual attendance, adherence to safety expectations, and compliance with company policies and procedures. The work area should be maintained clean and organized at all times.
