Job Description
This Medical Assistant role supports a busy primary care office by rooming patients, preparing and cleaning exam rooms, documenting in electronic medical records, and assisting with appointment scheduling. The position plays a key role in ensuring efficient clinic flow and a positive experience for every patient.
Responsibilities
- Room patients efficiently, verify patient identity, and prepare them for examination or treatment.
- Clean, restock, and prepare exam rooms between patients to maintain a safe, organized, and sanitary environment.
- Accurately document patient information, vital signs, and visit details in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Assist with appointment scheduling, including booking, rescheduling, and confirming patient visits.
- Support providers and clinical staff with routine medical assisting tasks as needed.
- Use the TS Energy EMR system to enter, update, and retrieve patient information in a timely and accurate manner.
- Follow clinical workflows and office procedures to support smooth daily operations in the primary care setting.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure patients receive timely, respectful, and efficient care.
- Float to additional clinic locations, such as Putnam and Willimantic offices, as scheduled in advance when needed.
Essential Skills
- Experience in medical assisting or a closely related clinical support role.
- Ability to room patients confidently and professionally in a primary care environment.
- Proficiency using electronic medical record (EMR) systems, including entering and retrieving patient data.
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from any recognized organization prior to starting.
- MA diploma, or at least 1 year of experience as a CNA, or at least 6 months of experience as an EMT.
- Strong attention to detail for accurate patient charting and documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks such as rooming, charting, and scheduling in a fast-paced clinic.
- Effective communication skills to interact with patients, providers, and staff.
- Reliability and flexibility to work within varying daytime schedules Monday through Friday.
Additional Skills & Qualifications.
- Prior experience in a primary care or outpatient clinic setting is beneficial.
- Familiarity with the TS Energy EMR system is a strong plus.
- Ability to adapt to different clinic locations and teams when floating to other offices.
- Comfort working within a unionized environment with structured benefits and policies.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain a clean and orderly clinical environment.
- Professionalism, empathy, and a patient-centered approach to care.
Work Environment
This role is based in a primary care office with a collaborative clinical team focused on delivering high-quality outpatient care. The schedule is Monday through Friday with typical shifts of 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., or 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., each including a 1-hour unpaid lunch. Candidates should be flexible with hours as needed. There is a possibility of floating to additional locations, including Putnam and Willimantic offices, on different days of the week; these assignments are scheduled in advance and do not require traveling between sites on the same day. The clinic uses the TS Energy EMR system and standard primary care equipment and supplies. The environment supports union membership with access to strong benefits once hired permanently, including comprehensive benefits starting 60 days after permanent hire and paid time off eligibility beginning 120 days after permanent hire. Clinical staff typically wear professional medical attire appropriate for a primary care setting

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Windham, CT.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.76 - $21.00/hr.
