Job Title: Propulsion Engineer


Job Description

We are seeking a Power Generation Engineer to support the development of the Navy's next generation Nuclear Power Generation Systems. This role is pivotal for ensuring the dominance of the seas and the safety of our sailors, focusing on the plans, analysis, and reporting of turbine generators.


Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of the CLB IPS electrical system.
  • Generate and distribute all electrical power.
  • Control systems for all power generation components.
  • Design and develop turbine generators, focusing on the generator side.
  • Develop turbine generator controlling systems.
  • Collaborate closely with Naval Reactors, PMS 397, the shipbuilder, and component vendors on detailed design requirements.
  • Ensure all design criteria are met in production units.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with turbine engines and nuclear power.
  • Power generation systems expertise.
  • Secret clearance is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, computer, or other related engineering fields, or equivalent NAVSEA or submarine experience.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in the design of military or commercial power generation systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Five years’ experience in maintenance, operation, and issue resolution of power generation systems is highly desired.
  • Naval Nuclear Propulsion experience on Virginia class submarines or at a prototype or nuclear shipyard is highly desired.
  • Three years’ experience with magnetic bearings as applied to power generation systems.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.

Work Environment

This position offers a hybrid work model with three days a week onsite at WNY, subject to Navy discretion. There is a 10% travel requirement to Sunnyvale, CA, Philadelphia, PA, and/or Groton, Connecticut. The team consists of mostly ex-navy veterans and retirees, fostering a supportive environment for all members, whether they have served or not.
