Job Description

Advance your career in surveying and mapping with a field-based role that offers hands-on work, cutting-edge technology, and room for growth. This position supports infrastructure and land development projects using GPS, LiDAR, drones, and more.


Responsibilities

  • Operate total stations, data collection devices, GPS equipment, and digital/automatic levels proficiently.
  • Perform basic survey calculations, including level note reductions and coordinate calculations.
  • Comprehend and interpret site, boundary, highway, and utility plans, maps and surveys, profile and cross-sections, horizontal and vertical curves.
  • Clean and maintain survey equipment such as GPS, total stations, robotic total stations, digital/automatic levels.
  • Learn to operate terrestrial LiDAR scanning equipment.
  • Load and unload survey equipment and supplies each day.
  • Set up survey tripods for backsite and foresight operations.
  • Perform cutting line operations.
  • Conduct safety setup and flagging operations under the direction of the Survey Crew Chief.
  • Assist with daily vehicle pre-checks, cleaning, and completing truck sheets.
  • Assist with monthly survey equipment inventory.
  • Support Subsurface Utility Engineering services as needed.

Essential Skills

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • 4+ years of experience as a Survey Field Tech I
  • Ability to use standard survey equipment as instructed
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time
  • Ability to stand and walk on smooth and uneven terrain for extended periods
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical activities such as bending and squatting
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical (U.S. only)
  • Experience working outdoors in all climates

Work Environment

This role involves outdoor work in all climates and requires travel up to 50% of the time, by company vehicle or commercial airline, with up to a 2-week continuous stay. The work is primarily based throughout Central Florida, supporting private and government projects, with most work related to FDOT.
