Job Description
Take the lead in the field as a Party Chief, managing survey crews and overseeing data collection for infrastructure and land development projects. This role combines technical expertise, leadership, and client interaction, using advanced tools like GPS, LiDAR, and drones.
Responsibilities
- Master the use and calibration of survey equipment including total stations, data collection devices, GPS equipment, digital/automatic levels, and terrestrial LiDAR.
- Comprehend and interpret site, boundary, highway, and utility plans, maps, surveys, profiles, and cross-sections.
- Perform survey calculations such as level note reductions, angle, and coordinate geometry.
- Supervise daily survey crew activities.
- Represent and communicate on behalf of the company with clients, subcontractors, and third parties during field activities.
- Facilitate Daily Tailgate Safety Meetings.
- Perform Daily Job Hazard Analysis with crew members.
- Direct safety set-up and flagging operations for proper maintenance of traffic signage.
- Train other crew members.
- Effectively maintain, clean, and operate vehicles, equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Assist with daily vehicle pre-checks and completion of truck sheets.
- Complete monthly survey equipment inventory for supervisor reorder.
- Load and unload survey equipment and supplies.
- Set up survey tripods to provide backsite and foresight operations.
- Support Subsurface Utility Engineering services as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- 1-3 years of experience as a Survey Field Tech II or a Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, by company vehicle or commercial airline, up to 2-week continuous stay.
- Ability to work outdoors in all climates.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical (U.S. only).
- Ability to stand and walk on smooth and uneven terrain for extended periods.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical activities such as bending and squatting related to carrying and operating survey equipment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with topography, land surveying, total stations, AutoCAD, and LiDAR.
- Previous experience as a Party Chief, particularly on FDOT projects, is advantageous.
Work Environment
Work will predominantly be throughout Central Florida supporting private and government projects, with most work being FDOT-related. The role involves outdoor work in various climates.
