Job Title: CAD Designer

Job Description

We are seeking an Experience CAD Designer to support the complete design build of desalination systems for new installations, expansions, or retrofit projects. As a CAD Designer, you will use AutoCAD Plant 3D to produce intelligent 3D plant models and detailed engineering drawings for water and wastewater treatment facilities, including both process systems and yard piping layouts. This role offers a lot of design flexibility, based on customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain intelligent 3D plant models using AutoCAD Plant 3D for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Generate and annotate 2D fabrication, construction, and layout drawings directly from 3D models, including general arrangements, sections, and isometrics.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) reflecting process and control intent.
  • Design comprehensive facility and yard piping layouts, ensuring proper routing, connectivity, and maintainability of buried and above-ground systems.
  • Produce detailed pipeline profile drawings, including pipe slopes, elevations, fittings, and utility crossings.
  • Apply and reference corporate standard details to supplement design layouts, ensuring constructability and consistency across projects.
  • Design and model piping systems utilizing a variety of materials, including PVC, HDPE, Super Duplex, 316 Stainless Steel, Ductile Iron, and CLDI.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant piping codes and design standards.
  • Work closely with mechanical and process engineers to validate piping layouts, hydraulic suitability, and installation feasibility.
  • Integrate instrumentation components into 3D models and associated drawings.
  • Collaborate with Electrical and Instrumentation Engineers to coordinate control devices, cable routes, and panel interfaces.
  • Produce high-quality, clearly annotated drawings suitable for fabrication, construction, and field installation.
  • Maintain and control drawing revisions, transmittals, and registers per corporate document management procedures.
  • Conduct self-checks and participate in design and model reviews for constructability, functionality, and compliance with standards.
  • Collaborate with Process, Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil teams to ensure multidisciplinary model integrity.
  • Support fabrication shops and field installation teams by providing drawing clarifications, as-built updates, and redline modifications.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of CAD standards, drawing templates, and standard detail libraries.

Essential Skills

  • 8+ years of water/wastewater treatment plant or similar industrial facility design experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D, including equipment modeling, piping design, and orthographic/isometric generation.
  • Experience producing yard piping layouts and pipeline profile drawings.
  • Strong understanding of piping systems, materials, valves, and instrumentation integration.
  • Ability to interpret and prepare P&IDs, general arrangements, and fabrication-level deliverables.
  • Proficiency in applying standard detail drawings to improve layout clarity and support field constructability.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Proven ability to coordinate across disciplines and maintain drawing accuracy under tight schedules.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills in a multi-discipline engineering environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with skid-mounted modular systems or prefabricated water treatment packages.
  • Familiarity with Navisworks, Revit, or Inventor for 3D coordination and model visualization.
  • Exposure to instrument loop drawings, control system integration, and I&E coordination.
  • Prior involvement with fabrication, field installation, or construction support activities.
  • Mentorship or team coordination experience within a design department.
