Job Description
The role of an Instructional Designer is a highly innovative learning architect who crafts compelling, learner-centric experiences aimed at driving measurable performance outcomes. The ideal candidate integrates instructional theory with real-world applications, modern learning technologies, and business acumen to deliver training solutions that align with organizational goals.
Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth needs analysis, performance gap assessments, and stakeholder interviews to validate business opportunities and identify the right learning solutions.
- Design multimodal learning journeys (eLearning, ILT/vILT, infographics, micro-learning, job aids, simulations) aligned to business KPIs. Solutions must incorporate clear learning objectives, interactivity, and problem-solving to promote knowledge retention.
- Create instructionally sound content using authoring tools such as Articulate 360 (Storyline and Rise), Adobe Creative Suite, Synthesia, and other relevant platforms. Design and deploy scalable, on-brand experiences using professional-grade visuals, media, and interactive elements.
- Create comprehensive, user-friendly facilitator guides including learning objectives, activity timing, talking points, facilitation instructions, interactive prompts, required materials, technical setup notes, and contingency planning tips.
- Set instructors up for success through structured Train-the-Trainer (TTT) programs, facilitator certification, observation and coaching, and live demonstrations of key modules.
- Design formative and summative assessments to evaluate learning effectiveness and integrate feedback, behavioral observation, and performance metrics into iterative improvements.
- Partner with peers and media teams to incorporate advanced learning elements such as scenario-based simulations, video, animations, interactive infographics, and gamification.
- Present learning plans and design deliverables confidently and professionally to cross-functional leaders and SMEs, influencing decisions through evidence-based design practices.
- Stay current on learning and development (L&D) best practices, learning science, and tools. Evaluate new technologies and pilot modern solutions.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in instructional design and authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline 360, Rise, Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and Synthesia.
- Familiarity with SCORM/xAPI standards and LMS systems.
- Demonstrated ability to design from scratch using adult learning theory and performance-based design.
- Exceptional written and visual communication skills.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to evaluate training effectiveness and calculate return on investment (ROI).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in instructional design, educational technology, a related field, and/or 5+ years of instructional design experience.
- Experience as an Instructional Designer in a corporate setting is preferred.
- Ability to storyboard and script for media and video production.
- Ability to manage ambiguity, work collaboratively, take feedback, and iterate quickly.
Work Environment
The position is based on-site at the Deerfield office, operating Monday through Friday from 9am to 6pm.
