Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position is essential for ensuring the proper collection and storage of specimens according to established procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
• Understand all physicians' orders thoroughly.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Ensure test requisitions or computer labels are 100% correct.
• Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.
• Maintain specimen integrity during transport by following specific protocols.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to callers.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• Minimum of 6 months' experience in performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED with 2-4 years of experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT).
• 2+ years' experience in performing phlebotomy, venipuncture, and processing samples.

Work Environment

This position is 100% onsite in a high-volume laboratory, performing draws. The shift is from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. You will work individually with patients but also as part of a team.
