Job Title: Fiberglass Laminator

Job Description

A fiberglass laminator is responsible for creating components for boats by applying fiberglass to a mold. The role involves ensuring that all areas of the mold are adequately covered with resin-saturated fiberglass matting to provide the required strength of the finished component. This process includes using a chop gun or hands to apply the fiberglass, pressing out air bubbles and pockets, and strategically placing spacing blocks for two-part molds. Additional tasks include mixing resins and removing the cured product from the mold.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure required parts and raw materials are ready when scheduled.
  • Arrange material according to documentation using numbers, letters, words, or pictures.
  • Spray or lay sheets of fiberglass on part molds.
  • Press layers into place and use a roller to smooth out wrinkles or voids.
  • Operate fiberglass chop guns.
  • Use hands and arms, as well as rollers, to handle, install, position, and manipulate material.
  • Utilize mil gauge for gel coats and fiberglass to ensure correct material application.
  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the material and storage area.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Engage in EH&S and Quality initiatives.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as platform trucks, forklifts, aerial work platforms, pallet jacks, and overhead hoists.
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required, including respirators, gloves, chemical resistance aprons, and chemical resistant suits.

Work Environment

The role is based in a shop floor environment that is non-climate controlled, with temperatures fluctuating according to outside conditions. The work involves frequent exposure to high temperatures, especially during summer, and moderate noise levels with occasional spikes. Safety glasses and other PPE are mandatory. The position requires walking or standing for extended periods, frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting or moving up to 35 pounds. Steel toe boots are mandatory for all roles.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Edgewater, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
