Job Description
This role offers the opportunity to work as a Medical Assistant in a busy urgent care and primary care clinic, providing high-quality patient care and support to clinical staff. You will perform both clinical and administrative duties, including triage, patient intake, and front desk functions, while helping to ensure an efficient and positive experience for every patient.
Responsibilities
- Perform medical assistant duties in an urgent care and primary care clinic, supporting providers and nursing staff in delivering patient care.
- Collect and accurately record patient demographics and insurance information in the electronic medical record (EMR) or electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Triage patients based on symptoms and urgency, obtaining vitals and relevant medical history to support clinical decision-making.
- Measure and document vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiratory rate.
- Assist with patient care activities, including rooming patients, preparing exam rooms, and supporting minor procedures as directed by providers.
- Perform phlebotomy and other basic clinical tasks as allowed by training and clinic protocols.
- Use medical terminology appropriately when documenting and communicating patient information.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records, ensuring all patient encounters are documented in the EMR/EHR.
- Provide clear patient education and instructions as directed by providers, ensuring patients understand their care plans and follow-up needs.
- Support front desk operations by greeting patients, providing excellent customer service, and answering basic questions.
- Schedule and manage patient appointments, ensuring efficient patient flow and minimal wait times.
- Verify insurance information and assist with basic insurance verification processes.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative team members to manage a daily patient volume of approximately 20–30 patients.
- Uphold clinic policies and procedures, including patient privacy, safety, and quality standards.
- Participate in a positive, team-oriented environment, contributing to a culture of respect, reliability, and patient-centered care.
- At least 1 year of experience working in a fast-paced clinic setting.
- Experience performing core medical assistant duties in an urgent care or primary care environment.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) or electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation and scheduling.
- Ability to triage patients based on symptoms and obtain accurate vitals and medical history.
- Strong understanding and practical use of medical terminology in a clinical setting.
- Competence in taking and recording vital signs, including blood pressure.
- Demonstrated patient care skills, including rooming patients and supporting providers during visits.
- Experience with appointment scheduling and front desk workflows in a healthcare setting.
- Solid customer service skills and a professional, patient-focused demeanor.
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment seeing 20–30 patients per day.
- Reliable communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with clinical and administrative staff.
- Preferred but not required: Medical Assistant diploma or certification (such as RMA or equivalent).
- Preferred: 1+ years of experience specifically as a Medical Assistant.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) knowledge or certification is beneficial.
- Experience with insurance verification processes is a plus.
- Phlebotomy experience or training is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with electronic medical record systems and appointment scheduling tools.
- Ability to provide clear and empathetic patient education.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and patient tracking.
This position is fully onsite in a primary care and urgent care clinic environment, typically seeing between 20 and 30 patients per day. The schedule follows regular weekday hours, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will work with modern electronic medical record systems and standard clinical equipment used for vitals, phlebotomy, and routine patient care. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jacksonville, FL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
