Job Title: Systems Engineer III
Job Description
The Systems Engineer III role involves performing customer requirements analysis, developing solutions, and designing and implementing advanced real-time software and hardware systems for operator and maintenance training devices. This position also includes mentoring junior engineers and collaborating across disciplines to ensure system-level integration and delivery. Candidates should have a background in training devices/simulation or experience with military aircraft or vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Generate and maintain requirements traceability matrices using tools such as IBM DOORS.
- Review customer specifications and develop architectural solutions based on hardware/software expertise.
- Analyze, design, and implement real-time systems for training devices.
- Participate in Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR) and In-Progress Reviews (IPR), documenting and resolving action items.
- Collaborate with engineering and project management teams to meet budget, timeline, and scope requirements.
- Conduct testing on-site and during early product development phases.
- Develop technical proposals and respond to RFPs/RFIs in coordination with marketing.
- Create and manage documentation to meet Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) standards.
- Mentor junior Systems Engineers and support team development.
- Safely handle government-furnished equipment and materials.
- Maintain a standard weekly schedule with flexibility for overtime.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Experience with Requirements Management and Traceability using IBM DOORS.
- Familiarity with Configuration Management and Product Data Management (PDM) tools such as Autodesk, Windchill, or SOLIDWORKS PDM.
- Strong understanding of simulation hardware/software and ability to recommend system-level solutions.
- Self-motivated with excellent writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to receive mentorship and collaborate with higher level engineers.
- Must be eligible to obtain a security clearance if required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bonus: No Magic Cameo / CATIA / SysML.
- Exposure to Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools and standards (e.g., ASME Y14 series, especially Y14.100).
- Understanding of how CAD artifacts integrate into system-level designs and contract deliverables.
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and C++ for interfacing with software engineering teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 5+ years of systems engineering experience, OR Bachelor’s in Computer Science and 7+ years of experience, OR High school diploma and 11+ years of experience.
- Advanced engineering degree preferred.
Work Environment
The position is onsite from Monday to Friday, with flexible shifts available from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM or 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM throughout the week.
