Job Description
As a Staff Pharmacist, you will be responsible for supervising pharmacy technicians and ensuring the accuracy and safety of medication preparation and dispensing. Your role includes reviewing and interpreting prescriptions, collaborating with healthcare providers, and advising patients on proper medication use. Your expertise in pharmacology and keen attention to detail will support high standards of care and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Interpret and validate medication orders based on physician instructions
- Review prescriptions for compliance with FDA-approved uses and clinical guidelines
- Educate patients on medication side effects, dosage, and proper storage
- Maintain up-to-date pharmacological knowledge through ongoing education and training
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical products
- Collaborate effectively with call center staff and cross-functional teams
- Serve as a subject matter expert for internal teams and external clients
- Follow established procedures for quality assurance, safety, and hazardous waste disposal
- Report prescription errors promptly and adhere to company policies
- Supervise and mentor staff, conduct performance evaluations, and provide continuous coaching
Essential Skills
- Proficient in data entry, pharmacy operations, and specialty pharmacy workflows
- Experienced in prescription review and call-center environments
- Skilled in customer service with in retail pharmacy
- Knowledgeable in dosing, dosage calculations, FDA health regulations, and pharmacology
- Capable of analyzing medical information and administering medications accurately
- Strong judgment and decision-making abilities with effective communication skills
- Committed to quality assurance, attention to detail, and legal compliance in healthcare settings
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 - 2 years of professional experience as a Pharmacist in a retail or specialty pharmacy setting.
- B.S. Pharm degree required; PharmD preferred.
- Current and valid Pharmacist state license, in good standing.
- Proficiency with basic computer programs.
- Ability to handle multiple requests and ensure timely medication order fulfillment.
Work Environment
This role is located at an onsite, closed-door, mail-order specialty pharmacy that ships medications directly to patients' homes. The pharmacy specializes in handling high-cost, complex medications. Operating hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with potential shifts starting as early as 6:00 AM and possible weekend coverage in the future. New hires will complete a two-day onboarding followed by approximately four weeks of program-specific training. Please note that PTO is not permitted during the training period.
