Job Title: Staff Pharmacist
Job Description
The Staff Pharmacist is tasked with overseeing pharmacy technician work related to medication orders and dispensing. This includes reviewing and interpreting physician orders to ensure the correct medication is delivered to patients, detecting therapeutic incompatibilities, and communicating with prescribers as needed to confirm dosing and administration. The role also involves monitoring drug therapies, identifying and reporting adverse events and product complaints, counseling patients on medication use, and conducting outreach and follow-up as required by regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities
- Review and approve medication orders by interpreting physician orders.
- Identify orders that fall outside the FDA-approved labeling and program guidelines.
- Review and approve orders above the FDA-approved dose maximum when supported by appropriate clinical documentation.
- Provide information to patients on side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals.
- Maintain pharmacological knowledge through educational workshops and professional publications.
- Contribute to team efforts and ensure timely delivery of quality products to customers.
- Collaborate effectively with call center and other program staff.
- Interact with clients related to operational process reviews.
- Provide subject matter expertise to program staff and clients.
- Ensure quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs are maintained.
- Report prescription errors and adhere to company policy regarding medication incidents.
- Supervise and guide staff, providing performance reviews, goal development, coaching, and mentoring.
Requirements
- B.S. Pharm degree is required; Pharm.D is preferred.
- Current and valid Pharmacist state license in good standing.
- Proficiency with basic computer programs.
- Ability to handle multiple requests simultaneously.
- Ensures timely review and fulfillment of medication orders.
- Data entry skills and pharmacy knowledge.
- Experience in retail pharmacy, call center operations, and prescription review.
- Ability to handle dosing and dosage queries.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of professional experience as a Pharmacist in a retail or specialty pharmacy setting.
- Knowledge of FDA Health Regulations and Pharmacology.
- Managing processes, legal compliance, and focus on quality.
Work Environment
This role is based in an on-site, closed-door mail-order specialty pharmacy that focuses on shipping high-cost, complex medications directly to patients' homes.
