Chemical Process Engineer
Job Description
The role focuses on process development and optimization, specifically in designing, implementing, and refining chemical treatment and plating processes for aerospace-grade metals used in landing gear manufacturing and overhaul. The aim is to analyze and improve process parameters to enhance efficiency, yield, and consistency while minimizing waste and downtime. Additionally, you will evaluate and introduce new chemistries, technologies, and process controls to boost product performance and extend service life.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise to production teams to resolve process-related issues such as bath contamination, coating defects, or chemical imbalances.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for chemical processing operations.
- Ensure processes meet all OEM, FAA, EASA, NADCAP, and ISO quality standards.
- Monitor and maintain process control documentation, including bath analysis, titration records, and chemical inventory logs.
- Participate in internal and external audits, providing documentation and corrective actions as required.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local environmental regulations for chemical handling, storage, and disposal.
- Conduct hazard assessments, risk analyses, and safety training for chemical operations.
- Lead cross-functional projects to improve throughput, reduce cost, and enhance process capability.
- Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis methodologies to drive corrective and preventive actions.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field required.
- 3–5 years of experience in chemical processing within aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments (preferably landing gear or MRO).
- Knowledge of aerospace coatings, anodizing, plating, passivation, and surface preparation methods. (metal finishings)
- Strong understanding of electrochemistry, metallurgy, and corrosion prevention.
- Proficient in process control techniques, chemical bath analysis, and quality tools.
- Ability to interpret OEM process specifications and engineering drawings.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with ERP/MES systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
- Familiarity with ERP systems.
- Experience in aerospace or MRO environments.
- Materials Science knowledge.
- Engineering drawings interpretation.
Work Environment
The role involves working in an office space as well as on the MRO floor. It offers an opportunity to join a global MRO/Landing Gear group, leading and developing other individual contributors.
