Job Description
The Senior Technical Accountant will support the Manager of Technical Accounting and senior management by handling various functions such as SEC reporting, derivatives analysis, technical accounting research, process controls, and ad-hoc special projects based on business needs. This role is crucial for meeting financial reporting deadlines, which may require extended hours during peak periods. The position demands responsibility and ownership over the financial items under one's control, including producing financial reports, performing calculations, and organizing report support.
Responsibilities
- Prepare derivative accounting reports and assist in analyzing derivative transactions.
- Review contracts for lease identification and write lease classification memos.
- Assess contractual obligations and maintain supporting documentation.
- Review contracts for embedded derivatives and prepare necessary documentation.
- Assist in technical accounting areas such as going concern, goodwill, intangible assets, valuations, segment reporting, and debt extinguishments/modifications.
- Coordinate and support SEC financial report tie-out.
- Prepare and tie-out external financial statements, including statutory reports and 401(k) plans.
- Prepare financial reporting packages.
- Research and assess technical accounting matters and disclosure requirements for complex transactions or changes in accounting standards.
- Assist with filings for debt instruments and equity offerings.
- Prepare and review SOX documentation, ensuring control performance evidence is appropriately filed.
- Respond promptly to internal and external auditor requests during quarterly reviews and annual audits.
- Monitor and report on the department's timely response to external audit requests.
- Perform other job-related functions, special ad-hoc requests, and special projects as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Ability to write technical memos.
- Proficiency in SEC reporting.
- Knowledge of derivatives analysis.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in public accounting or a technical accounting position at a publicly traded company.
- Experience in Big 4 public accounting is preferred.
Work Environment
The position operates on a hybrid schedule, with three days in the office and two days working remotely.
