Job Title: Finisher (Sander/Grinder Operator)

*must have experience operating a sander*

Shift: 5:30am - 4pm (Monday-Thursday); Overtime available on Friday & Saturday

Pay: $16.50/hr

Location: Ocala, FL (34474)

Job Description

Perform duties to sand, grind, mount, or repair any unit in preparation for welding, assembly operations, or paint, to meet specifications as part of the manufacture of large, custom, special-purpose vehicles, working within the limits of prescribed routines.

Responsibilities

  • Sand or grind parts or bevel edges in preparation for welding.
  • Feather, flute, flat and level grind, and remove sharp edges to prevent surface stress and fatigue fractures.
  • Detect dents, holes, and substrate inconsistencies.
  • Work from process sheets, shop orders, prints, schedules, and pick-lists.
  • Blow off and wipe down components to remove grit, grease, and other foreign substances.
  • Check cab, body, or component structure for defects such as dents, rough welds, fractures, and wavy surfaces.
  • Repair defects and apply fillers to meet surface finish requirements.
  • Apply primer over corrected areas and expose aluminum.
  • Wire brush welds to remove smoke and grind excess weld beads for a smooth surface.
  • Recognize and call attention to weld defects such as fractures, voids, porosity, and distortion.
  • Sand and apply polishing compounds, buff surfaces, and prepare for future processing.
  • Remove doors or components, mount them in place, and adjust sander pressure for symmetrical surface patterns.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16th of an inch.
  • Understanding of blueprints and schematics.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Effective teamwork and willingness to assist others.
  • Strong work ethic, attitude, and attendance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficient with hand and powered tools, spraying equipment, forklifts, fixtures, sanders, grinders, tape measures, squares, and files.
  • Experience with shop orders, grinders, sanding, and hand tools.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.50 - $21.50/hr.
