Job Description
As an Engineer, you will play a crucial role in supporting operations and maintenance by providing technical expertise and engineered solutions for equipment malfunctions. You will manage smaller capital projects, ensuring they are delivered within budget and schedule, while also focusing on equipment reliability and long-term performance.
Responsibilities
- Assist operations and maintenance with troubleshooting equipment malfunctions using technical expertise.
- Manage smaller capital projects, providing technical expertise, managing costs, and delivering startup support within project schedules.
- Take a hands-on approach to repair, replace, or redesign equipment as it begins to fail.
- Own equipment reliability within an assigned plant area or unit, considering safety, environmental, and operational success.
- Conduct cost analysis to weigh the pros and cons of various options and their impact on plant operations.
- Participate in developing design and installation specifications, along with commissioning plans for new equipment.
- Participate in the development and evaluation of equipment and technical maintenance service providers.
- Develop and lead continuous improvements in safety, quality, and throughput for the Refining Department.
- Organize and manage multiple projects and tasks to ensure high-quality service to all customers.
- Establish and maintain Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics and standards, updating data for KPI reports.
- Provide training on new equipment installations.
- Ensure documentation is updated based on equipment modifications or replacements.
- Plan and perform engineering research, design development, or manufacturing/process engineering assignments to reduce downtime.
Essential Skills
- 3+ years of engineering experience in an industrial site or engineering consulting.
- Must be comfortable wearing full PPE including a respirator.
- Knowledge of mechanical, instruments/controls, pneumatics, and hydraulic systems.
- Leadership skills in dynamic environments, promoting a positive team atmosphere and continuous improvement culture.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, conflict resolution, and team cooperation.
- Strong project management skills, including time management, action planning, prioritization, attention to details, and meeting deadlines.
- Highly self-motivated and directed, with the ability to work well under pressure and a sense of urgency.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Chemical engineering or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Background in heavy industrial equipment machinery.
- Reliability engineering experience with predictive technologies like vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, and infrared technologies.
Work Environment
The work environment is fully onsite with core hours from 6 AM to 5 PM, allowing for any 8-hour block within these times. You will report to the Director of Reliability and be involved in day-to-day analysis of downtime and uptime data to identify issues and prioritize plant operations. The role involves troubleshooting efforts on machines such as conveyor belts, screw conveyors, bag houses, and pumping systems.
