Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Construction Materials Testing Technician to perform critical tasks such as sampling and testing asphalt, concrete, and soil. This role involves conducting field inspections of various construction activities, including pile driving, paving, and earthwork operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform on-site testing of construction materials like soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates.
- Collect samples during construction activities such as concrete pours and soil compaction.
- Analyze material samples in a laboratory to ensure they meet project specifications and industry standards.
- Conduct common tests including compressive strength of concrete, soil gradation, and asphalt content.
- Inspect construction practices to verify compliance with engineering plans and specifications.
- Document test results and observations in detailed reports for engineers, contractors, and clients.
- Ensure materials and construction methods comply with local building codes, DOT standards, and project requirements.
- Help identify potential issues early to prevent structural failures or costly rework.
Essential Skills
- Experience in construction materials testing.
- Proficiency in construction materials testing, including concrete and laboratory testing.
- Strong foundational skills in math and science.
- Proficiency with computers and digital reporting tools.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends as project demands require.
- Positive attitude, strong attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Work Environment
The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Mornings typically start in the lab before transitioning to construction sites. The role requires physical stamina, including the ability to push a wheelbarrow loaded with concrete across uneven terrain, lift and carry up to 50 lbs, and safely climb in and out of pickup trucks and shallow trenches. You will navigate construction sites with potential obstructions and use hand tools such as shovels, picks, saws, hammers, and wrenches. Specialized testing equipment, weighing up to 75 lbs, is operated following training.
