TEKsystems is seeking a skilled Transport Engineer to support our Alaska-based client in a fully remote capacity. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity ideal for professionals with a strong background in telecommunications and network infrastructure.
As a Transport Engineer, you’ll apply core engineering principles to design, implement, and support high-availability network systems. You’ll collaborate across departments to ensure robust, scalable, and secure network solutions that align with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and implement transport network solutions across multiple platforms.
- Ensure high availability and performance of network infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and resolve Layer 2/3 network issues.
- Configure and support routers, switches, firewalls, voice, and video hardware.
- Monitor network performance and optimize for efficiency and scalability.
- Maintain documentation, provide reporting, and support project milestones.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical training.
- Participate in on-call rotation after initial training.
Technical Environment:
- Technologies: TDM/FDM, DOCSIS, QoS, TCP/UDP, CWDM/DWDM, xDSL, SONET, HFC, PON
- Vendors/Tools: Nokia, Ciena, Fujitsu, MetaAssist, CommScope, Cisco WLC
- Skills: Circuit Design, Transport Engineering, Network Troubleshooting, IP Addressing, Network Diagrams
What You Bring:
- Solid understanding of network engineering principles and telecommunications standards.
- Experience with Nokia transport systems and access technologies.
- Strong diagnostic skills for Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with capacity planning and bandwidth forecasting.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools and performance tuning.
- Ability to support remote sites and off-site personnel.
