Phlebotomist II
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist II to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in assisting with various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations to enhance our operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate as needed.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures, ensuring proper explanation of the process to patients.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles effectively.
- Understand and adhere to physicians' orders, matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order, ensuring correct procedure compliance.
- Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport, storing them at required temperatures and following protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings and answer telephone inquiries regarding laboratory results.
Essential Skills
- 2-4 years of recent experience in phlebotomy performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
- Experience with pediatric and geriatric patients
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Customer service skills.
- Sample/specimen processing experience.
- Ability to perform 40-50 draws per day
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Phlebotomy certification is preferred but not required
