Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist II is to assist with various tasks, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position involves performing blood draws, labeling specimens, and ensuring the proper storage and handling of samples.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
  • Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
  • Decontaminate and update patient information as needed.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and other specimen collection processes to patients.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Understand and execute physicians' orders accurately.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
  • Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match scripts with 100% accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport while maintaining their integrity.
  • Store specimen samples at required temperatures and place them in appropriate containers.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department training sessions.
  • Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Phlebotomy certification.
  • Minimum 2+ years of recent phlebotomy experience.
  • Experience with blood draws from geriatric to pediatric patients.
  • Proficiency in straight needle venipuncture.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Specimen collection and processing expertise.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.

Work Environment

This position is based in a medium-sized office at a recovery center, handling over 30 patients a day, ranging from pediatric to geriatric. The work hours are 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday, with no weekend shifts. Training will be provided at a different location (PSC).

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dacula, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
