Job Title: Transmission Line Engineer

Job Description

The Line Design Engineer 3 is responsible for the engineering processes, design criteria, and software applications used to design and construct high-voltage transmission lines (HVTL). This role involves supporting estimate preparation, developing design options, and preparing construction specifications. The engineer will provide guidance, oversight, and quality assurance reviews for approved contractors as they develop design solutions, cost estimates, and construction packages for outsourced line design jobs.


Responsibilities

  • Create a safe work environment by prioritizing safety.
  • Understand the processes used for HVTL planning, design, operation, construction, and maintenance.
  • Understand the functions and activities of various internal departments involved in HVTL design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Comprehend transmission line design practices and work processes, using all software applications used in HVTL design.
  • Understand NESC and internal design standards, supporting design standards and criteria development for the system.
  • Support construction and maintenance teams during day-to-day operations and emergency restoration of failed equipment.
  • Provide quality assurance reviews for PLSCADD line models and job construction packages.
  • Estimate materials for transmission projects and transmit construction packages and supporting specifications.

Essential Skills

  • 7+ to 10 years of related experience.
  • Accredited bachelor’s degree or professional engineer license.
  • Significant engineering knowledge and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make independent decisions based on procedure.
  • Basic TLD software knowledge and strong interpersonal skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with design, transmission, civil engineering, structural steel, PLS CADD, structural, AutoCAD, mechanical, electrical, and mechanical design.
  • Experience with DOT, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Inventor for 10, 12, or 15 years.
  • Preferably an associate's degree.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position with three days a week in the office. The office is undergoing a renovation at Forest Park, with work-from-home (WFH) for about a month. Internal team meetings occur on Tuesdays. The work week consists of forty hours with overtime as needed. Employees spend 20% of their time in the field and 80% in the office, performing tasks such as communicating via email and phone, performing calculations, drafting reports, and creating and reviewing plans.
