Job Description

As a PLM Analyst, you will be responsible for preparing and analyzing samples using polarized light microscopy (PLM) techniques. Your work will involve meeting with the team, preparing samples, conducting analyses, and maintaining accurate records. This role offers a relaxed and flexible work environment, focusing on quality over production, with opportunities for cross-training.


Responsibilities

  • Perform sample preparations, archiving, tracking, disposal, and analyses according to standard operating procedures and project protocols.
  • Document sample submissions and tracking accurately.
  • Ensure accurate calculation of concentration techniques per regulatory agency methods.
  • Maintain and calibrate microscopes and assure proper documentation of raw data.
  • Operate PLM using LIMS and document sample numbers and dates in a logbook.
  • Prevent contamination of reagents and cross-contamination of samples.
  • Analyze talc samples using Amscope Camera and Program.
  • Begin project work immediately upon receipt and compile draft reports.
  • Meet department, client, and sample turnaround times.
  • Pass all required external QC sample rounds on the first attempt.
  • Maintain project lab and logbooks per QC, SOPs, and protocols.
  • Report any issues with instruments or protocols to management promptly.
  • Provide accurate and timely QC data as required.
  • Log in samples as necessary and follow required documentation protocols.
  • Respond to internal email inquiries within 12 hours.
  • Draft SOPs and submit them for approval.


Essential Skills

  • Experience using microscopes in a college or industry lab setting.
  • Degree in Biology, Geology, or Materials Science.
  • Proficiency in optical microscopy, specifically polarized light microscopy.
  • Experience in calibration of lab instruments such as microscopes, balances, and thermometers.
  • At least 6 months of lab environment experience.
  • Ability to work independently.


Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Amscope Camera and Program is a plus.
  • Experience with LIMS is a plus.
  • Proficiency in computer use and software navigation.
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively.
  • Self-starter with initiative and self-guidance.


Work Environment

The position operates within a laid-back and employee-oriented environment with flexible scheduling. The work schedule is generally from 8am to 5pm, but flexibility is allowed if 8 hours of work are completed daily. The role involves working alongside a team consisting of TEM and SEM analysts, as well as a PLM Analyst Lead and a Microscopy Manager who visits quarterly. Physical requirements include extended periods of standing or sitting, ability to distinguish colors and details, and occasionally moving samples and supplies.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Suwanee, Georgia.
