Environmental Technician – Water Treatment / Wastewater Operator

Position Overview

The Environmental Technician supports daily environmental, health, and safety (EHS) operations within a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on safe handling, removal, and transport of hazardous and non‑hazardous waste, while also contributing to broader EHS program initiatives, safety reporting, and compliance activities. The technician works closely with EHS leadership to maintain a safe, efficient, and compliant workplace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely remove hazardous and non‑hazardous waste from production departments and transport materials to the designated distribution center.
  • Complete monthly safety reports, including data gathering and documentation, as directed by the Manager and Sr. Director of Global EHS & Facilities.
  • Assist in the global standardization of EHS programs and support ISO documentation efforts.
  • Track FM Global property risk audits and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Develop, plan, and deliver innovative safety training programs.
  • Support general manufacturing operations as needed, including picking, assembling, packaging, machine setup, and equipment operation.
  • Adhere to all work instructions, safety procedures, and quality standards.

  • 6+ months of production experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 6+ months of mechanical experience or equivalent
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull 20 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience

  • 2+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Previous EHS program project management experience preferred
  • Six months of production experience preferred
  • Six months of mechanical experience or equivalent required

Skills

  • Strong manual dexterity and coordination
  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot minor issues
  • Ability to recognize normal vs. unusual operating conditions
  • Ability to learn instrument or circuit board assembly (Loveland only), machine operations (including setup and changeover), and/or kitting
  • Ability to work with manual and/or power equipment (area‑dependent)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes is helpful

Work Environment

  • Work performed in the Solutions Department
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, and confined spaces
  • Noise levels may be occasionally loud
  • Required PPE includes eye protection, hearing protection, steel‑toe shoes, and gloves
  • Contact lenses are not permitted in production areas
  • Work typically performed in teams of 2–4

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ames, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
