Technician – Job Description
Overview
The Technician plays a key role in operating refinery equipment and supporting glycerin refinery plant operations. This position uses systems such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS) to maintain production targets, ensure process efficiency, and uphold safety and quality standards. The Technician monitors process parameters, responds to alarms, evaluates equipment status, and makes operational adjustments to maintain optimal plant performance.
Responsibilities
- Operate refinery equipment and manage daily plant operations using Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
- Monitor process parameters, alarms, and equipment conditions, making timely adjustments to maintain safe and efficient production.
- Conduct quality control sampling at designated points and ensure prompt delivery of samples for laboratory analysis.
- Handle and dose chemicals according to production requirements while following all safety and handling protocols.
- Perform preventive maintenance on field equipment and promptly report abnormalities or equipment issues.
- Adhere to all plant safety procedures, especially when working with hazardous materials, high‑temperature equipment, or in confined spaces.

Work Environment
- 12‑hour rotating shift: 6:30 PM – 6:30 AM
- Climate‑controlled facility with indoor and outdoor work
- Exposure to chemicals, pressurized steam, dust, heat, noise, and fumes
- Work may involve confined spaces
- Casual dress code with required PPE: steel‑toed boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and additional protective gear
- Uniforms provided after onboarding
- Approximately 10 production operators per shift
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ames, IA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
