Responsibilities
- Efficiently operate batching equipment and concrete mixers to maintain maximum production levels for both wet and dry cast processes.
- Use batch control equipment to adjust concrete mixes and maintain high-quality concrete that meets production specifications.
- Visually monitor the batch control board and screens to verify that all equipment and processes are functioning properly during concrete production.
- Assist with and perform routine maintenance on concrete mixers, including checking and replacing fluids, lubricating parts, and cleaning equipment as needed.
- Apply general knowledge of hydraulic and electrical components associated with batching equipment to support safe and reliable operation.
- Monitor and track daily usage of cement and fly ash, maintaining accurate records for production and inventory purposes.
- Keep batching equipment clean, organized, and in good operating condition to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Receive delivery tickets for aggregates and cementitious materials and verify information for quality and accounting purposes.
- Collaborate with plant supervision to coordinate the timely delivery of concrete to work departments within the plant.
- Summarize daily concrete batch data and usage from wet and dry batch processes to report material consumption against products produced.
- Apply and follow Lock Out Tag Out procedures to ensure safe maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
- Diagnose and assist in troubleshooting issues when mixing or batching processes are interrupted or do not meet expected performance.
- Operate forklifts and assist with shipping, loading, and movement of raw materials and finished products as needed.
- Use hand tools, tape measures, and blueprints in support of general construction and precast concrete activities when required.
- Work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment while performing an independent role that the rest of the plant depends on.

- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, and multiplication, to support batching and material tracking.
- Previous concrete batch processing or equipment experience preferred, with familiarity in operating batching systems.
- Experience working in construction, precast, or general labor environments, including use of hand tools and tape measures.
- Ability to operate forklifts and handle shipping, loading, and raw material movement, or willingness to learn.
- Comfort working in a busy, production-oriented environment where the role is critical to overall plant operations.
- Ability to follow safety procedures, including Lock Out Tag Out, and use required personal protective equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Large industrial forklift experience, ideally 1+ year.
- Farm work experience, ideally 1+ year, demonstrating mechanical aptitude and comfort with heavy equipment.
- Ability to read blueprints to support coordination with production and construction teams.
- Ability to read a tape measure down to 1/8 of an inch for accurate measurements.
- Experience in concrete production, mixing, or precast operations.
- Experience in general construction or yard operations, including use of hand tools and basic equipment.
- Strong attention to detail for monitoring batch quality, material usage, and documentation.
- Willingness to be cross-trained in multiple areas within the plant and support other teams as needed.
Why Work Here?
Employees enjoy a largely indoor production environment, which is uncommon for precast facilities, along with clear opportunities for advancement based on performance. Many leaders have grown from floor roles into supervisory positions, demonstrating a strong commitment to internal promotion and career development. While on contract, team members receive weekly pay, access to comprehensive benefits starting the first of the month after hire, eight paid holidays, a paid lunch when staying on-site, and a weekly attendance bonus that rewards consistent reliability. Long term, employees benefit from a supportive culture, medical, vision, and dental coverage, short- and long-term disability, a flexible spending account, regular food trucks, vending options, monthly birthday celebrations, safety days with catered food, and employee recognition programs. Paid time off accrues and increases with tenure, and a 401(k) plan with a dollar-for-dollar match up to 4% is available after 30 days of full-time employment, reinforcing a focus on financial well-being and long-term stability.
Work Environment
The role follows a primarily first-shift schedule, typically 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with extended hours during the busy season from approximately 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Overtime is commonly available on Saturdays from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with notice provided by Thursday. The facility is a covered but not temperature-controlled, dirty and dusty environment similar to a construction site, reflecting the nature of concrete production and heavy industrial work. About 80–90% of the work takes place inside the plant, which is uncommon for precast operations and offers more protection from outdoor elements. The team size is typically around 60 people, increasing to approximately 80 during spring and summer, creating a busy, collaborative, and team-oriented setting where cross-training is encouraged. The Batch Plant Operator role is independent and central to plant operations, with other departments relying on accurate and timely concrete production. Required attire includes a hard hat, jeans, steel-toed boots, and safety glasses, with additional personal protective equipment used as needed to maintain a safe working environment.
