We’re seeking a highly skilled and motivated Safety Specialist to play a critical role in protecting people, projects, and performance across dynamic construction environments. This is an opportunity to serve as a trusted subject matter expert, partner closely with contractors and leadership teams, and make a measurable impact on safety culture at complex power generation and construction sites.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, exceptional communication skills, and a passion for proactive injury and incident prevention. If you excel at building relationships, driving accountability, and setting the standard for safety excellence, this role offers both challenge and purpose.
What You’ll Do
- Lead safety observations and inspections across construction sites to ensure compliance with project safety programs and applicable regulations
- Conduct detailed safety audits, identify compliance gaps, and drive corrective actions to closure
- Review contractor method statements, work plans, and safety plans to ensure alignment with project and regulatory requirements
- Partner with contractors and subcontractors through meetings and on-site engagement to proactively address health and safety concerns
- Review and assess investigations of serious construction incidents to confirm root causes are identified and preventive actions implemented
- Attend pre-activity meetings and ongoing construction coordination meetings to embed safety into all phases of work
- Monitor daily construction activities to ensure adherence to approved safety plans and standards
- Maintain safety and performance metrics and regularly report on program effectiveness and trends
- Manage the construction safety audit program and associated reporting
- Complete daily field reports documenting observations, findings, safety events, and overall project status
- Serve as a visible safety leader in the field—coaching, mentoring, and influencing safe behaviors
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Management, or a related field (relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree)
- Current professional safety certification such as CSP, ASP, CHST, OSHT, GSP, or equivalent from BCSP or a similar accredited organization
- 10+ years of experience in construction safety
