Job Description

Join a dynamic steel facility that supplies essential building materials such as steel beams, rebar, stairways, glass doors, and windows to general contractors. As a Material Handler, you will play a crucial role in maintaining inventory, locating materials for production orders, and preparing finished stock for shipment. Your attention to detail and problem-solving skills will ensure the efficient handling of materials and contribute to the overall success of the team.

Responsibilities

• Maintain inventory by identifying, labeling, and placing materials and supplies in stock.
• Record the location of inventory and locate materials and supplies by pulling and verifying them against production orders.
• Prepare finished stock for shipment by identifying, pulling, packing, crating, loading, and securing products.
• Document product shipment by recording units shipped.
• Operate an overhead crane indoors and learn to accurately read a tape measure.
• Prepare rebar and steel for various departments.
• Complete pre-use inspections and make operator repairs on material-handling equipment.
• Participate in ordering or purchasing standard stock items by recommending additions or deletions to standard stock items or ordering replenishments within established procedures and limits.

Essential Skills

• 1+ years of inventory management experience.
• 2 years of experience as a material handler, warehouse worker, or in industrial forklift or crane operation, or construction yard experience.
• Ability to read work orders to pull parts accurately.
• Proficiency in reading a tape measure to ensure correct part lengths.
• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
• Capability to lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to crawl, climb ladders, and work long hours in various weather conditions.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Des Moines, IA.

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Des Moines,IA.
