Job Title: Safety Specialist
Job Description
This role involves ensuring adherence to the project's safety guidelines, coordinating with safety leads, and ensuring all personnel have completed required safety training. The Safety Specialist will engage with crews on-site, monitor safety practices, and participate in safety meetings.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with project-specific safety plans and client safety requirements.
- Coordinate with the regional safety lead for safety signage and PPE availability.
- Confirm completion of safety orientation training for all on-site personnel.
- Gather and organize documentation from subcontractors and trade partners, including Job Hazard Analyses, Safety Data Sheets, and High-Risk Activity Plans.
- Conduct daily safety audits using a digital platform and share findings with the project team.
- Submit a minimum of two Safety Observation Reports per week.
- Spend 60–70% of time in the field engaging with crews and monitoring safety practices.
- Attend and contribute to various meetings, including daily huddles and coordination meetings.
- Lead or support weekly all-hands safety meetings.
- Review and track safety documentation and spot-check during site visits.
- Notify the project team and safety lead of incidents or near-misses and assist in investigations.
- Conduct site-specific safety orientations for trade partners.
- Maintain communication with subcontractor safety representatives and participate in planning meetings for high-risk activities.
- Maintain clear communication with the project team and safety leadership, and address safety concerns proactively.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
- Safety certifications such as CHST or CSP are required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 8–10 years of safety experience is acceptable.
- Experience supporting data center construction projects is highly preferred.
- Excellent communication skills and reliability.
- Ability to support and align with the project schedule.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- OSHA 30 certification.
- ASP, CHST, or CSP certification.
- Experience in commercial building construction is considered.
- Ability to work on sites requiring NDAs is a plus.
Work Environment
The work location is in Itasca, IL. The position requires a commitment to 40-50 hours per week, with start times typically at 5:00 or 6:00 AM. The role requires being on-site every day, with 70% of the time spent in the field and 30% in the office. Flexibility to accommodate extended hours if project needs require it is expected. The candidate must pass a background check and drug/alcohol test.
