Director Data Engineering

Job Summary

This role oversees a team that implements scalable production data pipelines, and web scale data products and APIs. This position will also play a key role in the design and implementation of new (or updates to existing) platforms to drive and realize WBA data strategy.

Job Responsibilities

• Directs the design and development of complex software that processes, stores and serves data for use by others
• Directs the design and delivery of complex and large scale data structures and pipelines to organize, collect and standardize data to generate insights and addresses reporting needs
• Writes complex ETL (Extract / Transform / Load) processes, designs database systems and develops tools for real-time and offline analytic processing
• Ensures that data pipelines are scalable, repeatable and secure. Improves data consistency and integrity
• Directs the integration of data from a variety of sources, assuring that they adhere to data quality and accessibility standards. Designs data infrastructure for scalability, availability, reliability
• Participates in developing technical / business approaches and new or enhanced technical tools.
• Recommends the right tool and technology to deliver solutions objectively. Evaluates new technologies for continuous improvement
• Interacts with internal and external peers and management to share highly complex information related to areas of expertise and/or to gain acceptance of new or enhanced technology / business solutions
• Create technical design documents and supporting materials
• Provides thought leadership to embrace modern data science and data analytics as a critical enabler for business decisions
• Guides and mentors a wide range of audiences
• Implements policies and defines approach to strategy achievement for specified area of responsibility. Analyzes long-term impact of new or anticipated strategies and decisions
• Manages budgets, operational plans and performance requirements for the specified area of responsibility. Responsible for meeting budgetary goals and objectives.
• Facilitates communication between staff, management, vendors, and other technology resources within and outside of the organization. Shares highly complex information related to areas of expertise. Interacts with senior management to keep abreast of objectives. Interacts with direct reports and peers in management / customers / vendors to interpret information and improve cross-functional processes and programs. Builds and enhances key internal and external contacts.

The actual salary an employee can expect to receive, plus bonus pursuant to the terms of any bonus plan if applicable, will depend on experience, seniority, geographic location, and other factors permitted by law. Basic Qualifications

• BA/BS + at least 8 years e xperience in data engineering OR High School/GED + at least 11 years e xperience in data engineering
• Deep knowledge of SQL
• At least 2 years of experience with REST API development
• Experience establishing and maintaining key relationships with internal (peers, business partners and leadership) and external (business community, clients and vendors) within a matrix organization to develop strategies that meet department goals within budget and timelines.
• Experience interacting at the executive level
• Experience presenting to all levels of an organization, including the C-Suite level
• At least 5 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
• At least 5 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.
• Willing to travel up to/at least 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience deploying Python applications
• Experience with Azure application deployment
• Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka or Azure Event Hubs

Salary Range: $175100 - $297700 / Salaried
