Job Title: PART-TIME Histotechnologist
Job Description
The Histotechnologist is responsible for performing a variety of technical and clerical tasks to support the efficient operation of the Histology Laboratory. This role requires demonstrated competency in histological techniques and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and patient safety.
Responsibilities
- Accurately embed tissue specimens with proper orientation following established protocols.
- Perform high-quality microtomy for tissue block sectioning.
- Carefully gross and dissect patient samples in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
- Execute manual special stains with appropriate quality control measures.
- Conduct immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining with validated quality control procedures.
- Troubleshoot basic histology procedures to ensure consistent performance and reliability.
- Maintain clear documentation and communication to uphold chain-of-custody standards.
- Complete daily maintenance logs to verify optimal equipment functionality and laboratory conditions.
- Participate in RL6 incident investigations and provide support as needed.
- Promptly report and assist in the investigation of patient safety events, medical errors, and potential risks.
- Collaborate in identifying and implementing corrective actions when necessary.
- Address operational concerns such as turnaround times, supply issues, and patient-related inquiries, escalating to appropriate leadership as required.
Essential Skills
- Histology Technologist (HTL) certification or Histology Laboratory Technician (HT) certification issued by ASCP.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, allied health science or related field of study.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- CPR certification.
- Newly certified histology graduates can be considered.
- Previous experience in a hospital or reference laboratory is a plus.
Work Environment
This is a part-time position requiring 20 hours per week with 8-hour shifts available Monday through Friday. No weekends or on-call duties are required. Flexible start times range from 5 am to 7:30 am, and there is flexibility regarding specific workdays.
