IT Hardware Depot Technician – Job Description
Overview
The IT Hardware Depot Technician is responsible for receiving, inspecting, repairing, imaging, and distributing computer hardware within a depot or warehouse environment. This role ensures that all devices meet organizational standards before deployment and supports the full lifecycle of IT assets.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Processing & Inventory
- Receive, unpack, label, and organize incoming IT equipment
- Maintain accurate inventory records using asset management systems
- Prepare devices for shipment, deployment, or storage
Diagnostics & Repair
- Perform hardware diagnostics on laptops, desktops, and peripherals
- Replace or upgrade components such as RAM, SSDs, motherboards, and power supplies
- Document repair actions and maintain service logs
Imaging & Configuration
- Wipe, image, and configure devices using standard tools (SCCM, MDT, Clonezilla, etc.)
- Install required software packages and apply system updates
- Ensure devices meet security and compliance requirements
Asset Lifecycle Management
- Track devices through deployment, return, refurbishment, and retirement
- Process decommissioned equipment following data destruction protocols
- Update asset records to reflect status changes
Support & Communication
- Collaborate with IT teams to fulfill hardware requests
- Provide basic technical support for hardware-related issues
- Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors regarding device status
Qualifications
- Experience with PC hardware repair and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with imaging tools and ticketing systems (ServiceNow, Jira, etc.)
- Understanding of basic networking concepts
- Ability to lift and move hardware as needed
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Preferred Certification
- CompTIA A+
- CompTIA ITF+
- OEM hardware repair certifications (Dell, HP, Lenovo)
This is a Contract position based out of Northlake, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.00/hr.
