Job Description: Maintenance Manager
This position is crucial for driving proactive maintenance strategies, implementing automation investments, and providing strong leadership to a unionized workforce. The successful candidate will possess strong mechanical and electrical expertise and demonstrate a hands-on approach to coaching and engaging teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the maintenance department, including unionized staff across up to three shifts.
- Ensure reliable operation of all plant equipment through preventive and predictive maintenance, with a strong emphasis on automation and robotics.
- Drive continuous improvement using Lean Manufacturing principles such as 5S, Kanban, Standardized Work, and Kaizen.
- Develop and execute maintenance schedules, manage parts inventory, and control departmental budgets for labor and materials.
- Utilize CMMS (preferably Hexagon) to track KPIs, equipment history, and maintenance performance.
- Collaborate with production, safety, quality, and warehouse teams to ensure timely support and minimal downtime.
- Serve as a hands-on leader who can troubleshoot, coach, and develop team members while fostering a culture of accountability and engagement.
- Communicate clearly and effectively across all levels of the organization, including with vendors and engineering teams.
- Support capital projects and equipment upgrades, leveraging engineering studies and practical machine knowledge.
- Champion safety, regulatory compliance, and GMP standards throughout the facility.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Process, Reliability, or related field).
- Minimum 6 years of maintenance leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, including knowledge of PLCs, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
- Demonstrated experience with automation and robotics in a production setting.
- Proven leadership in a unionized environment, with the ability to engage and develop teams.
- Experience with CMMS systems (Hexagon preferred) and KPI-driven performance management.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Flexibility to work extended hours, including weekends, as needed.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, PLC troubleshooting, lean manufacturing, GMP, scheduling, inventory control, and budgeting.
