Job Title: Manual Boring Mill Machinist

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Manual Boring Mill Machinist to join our team in setting up and operating manual vertical and horizontal boring mills. This role involves producing large-scale cylindrical precision components with the utmost accuracy. Your expertise in reading and interpreting technical drawings will be vital to ensure the high-quality production of precision parts, meeting both customer and company standards while maintaining safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual boring mills to machine precision components.
  • Load and unload raw materials and finished parts, ensuring correct fixture and tooling.
  • Interpret and follow engineering blueprints and work instructions.
  • Verify part dimensions using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges.
  • Monitor machine performance and troubleshoot issues to maintain productivity and quality.
  • Conduct routine maintenance checks and report machine malfunctions.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality records.
  • Adhere to all company safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment.

Essential Skills

  • Machining experience, particularly manual machining.
  • Proficiency with manual lathe and mill operations.
  • Experience with boring mills.
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools such as analog and digital micrometers and calipers.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of machining experience, preferably with large-capacity lathes.
  • Experience in job shop settings.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints.
  • Experience with large part handling and overhead crane operation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training is a plus.

Work Environment

The work environment is a job shop/machine shop setting with roughly 35 people, including machinists, welders, and office staff. Working hours are typically from 6 AM to 2:30 PM, but currently extend from 5 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday, with optional Saturdays from 6 AM to 12 PM, totaling 50-56 hours per week. Employees are provided with 12 uniforms, ensuring a clean uniform for work every day.

This is a Permanent position based out of Riverdale, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $58240.00 - $68640.00/yr.
