Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to lead new product development for positioners and welding automation systems, including precision, robot-programmed product lines. This role involves serving as the technical lead for projects from concept through production, managing timelines ranging from weeks to months. You will advance mechanical design, FEA, GD&T, and tolerance analysis for high-precision, tight-fit components, while driving design-for-manufacturing to ensure repeatability, reliability, and scalability. Collaboration with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, suppliers, and leadership to execute product roadmaps is essential.
Responsibilities
- Lead new product development for positioners and welding automation systems.
- Serve as technical lead for projects from concept through production.
- Manage timelines ranging from weeks to months.
- Advance mechanical design, FEA, GD&T, and tolerance analysis for high-precision components.
- Drive design-for-manufacturing to ensure repeatability, reliability, and scalability.
- Support integration of automation, motion control, robotics, hydraulics, and structural systems.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, suppliers, and leadership to execute product roadmaps.
Essential Skills
- 6+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience.
- 3D CAD design for manufacturing.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering.
- Project management for new product development.
- Proficiency in FEA and GD&T.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Creo and Windchill.
- Hydraulic and robotic experience.
- Proven experience leading technical projects from concept to launch.
- Strong understanding of structural steel design & weldments, industrial motion systems, mechanical power transmission.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams.
- Exposure to PLC integration.
- Experience in robotic or welding automation systems.
- Lean product development experience.
Work Environment
The position offers an engaging work culture with 85% of time spent in the office doing design work and analysis, and 15% on the shop floor with a team of about 20 people. The facility includes three bays for manufacturing and one additional bay. The company provides a fun environment with team-oriented values, low turnover, and opportunities for continued education. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rock Island, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $43.00 - $53.00/hr.
