Job Title: Assistant Construction Manager
Job Description
As an Assistant Construction Manager, you will be responsible for the onsite management of small retail and commercial remodels. This position involves ensuring safety enforcement, performing safety audits, creating project schedules, and coordinating with subcontractors on a daily basis. You will also be handling submittals, change orders, RFIs, and other related documents, as well as reading blueprints, drawings, and site layouts according to specifications. Additionally, you will propose bids, determine the costs of labor and materials for projects, attend client meetings, and coordinate with clients onsite. Daily responsibilities include job-site clean-up and ensuring the site is set up for operation the next day, as well as securing and locking up the site at the end of each shift. Occasional use of basic hand and power tools is required.
Responsibilities
- Manage onsite activities for small retail and commercial remodels.
- Enforce safety measures and conduct safety audits.
- Create project schedules and coordinate with subcontractors daily.
- Handle submittals, change orders, and RFIs.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and site layouts.
- Propose bids and determine project costs.
- Attend and coordinate client meetings onsite.
- Ensure daily job-site clean-up and readiness for the next day's operations.
- Secure and lock up the site before shift completion.
- Use basic hand and power tools occasionally.
Essential Skills
- Experience in construction management and site construction.
- Ability to manage subcontractors effectively.
- At least internship-level experience in Construction Management.
- Hands-on experience with carpentry, interiors, and labor work.
- Proficiency in daily reporting and documentation through software.
- Knowledge of job site safety, construction engineering, and construction codes.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and schedules.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; Associate's degree minimum requirement.
- Internship to 3 years of experience with a general contractor or related construction experience.
- Hands-on attitude and ability to work with hands.
- Ability to travel around the Chicagoland area for projects.
