Electrical Utilities Design Technician
Job Description
Join a dynamic team as a Design Tech and contribute to the development of design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems. These systems operate from 4kV through 138kV and are primarily associated with programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports.
Responsibilities
- Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV.
- Ensure compliance with safety requirements and design and quality expectations.
- Travel to sites as needed for inspections, returning to the office to complete engineering design work.
- Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions, and calculating voltage drop and flicker.
- Develop permitting documents for various authorities having jurisdiction.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including conducting post-construction reviews.
- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and implement mitigation using engineering principles and design.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, etc.).
- Desire and ability to lead a team of engineers and complete complex designs.
- Strong client-facing skills and ability to represent the business and oneself effectively.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- EIT (Engineer in Training) Certification.
- Experience in Power Distribution.
Work Environment
The work environment is an office setting with a cubicle layout. Initially, candidates will work in the Carmel office four days a week for the first 9-12 months. After transitioning to direct hire, they will work onsite in Carmel three days a week, with potential for more flexibility after gaining experience. Field visits throughout Indiana may be required, with mileage reimbursed. The company culture combines the feel of a larger engineering firm with a small office atmosphere. The dress code is casual, though candidates must be prepared for client-facing situations or fieldwork. The work schedule is the first shift, Monday through Friday.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carmel, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.04 - $24.04/hr.
