Job Description
This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of industrial equipment in a manufacturing environment. The Maintenance Mechanic performs preventive maintenance and repairs on conveyors, pumps, mixers, overhead cranes, and facility systems, while also supporting fabrication, welding, and installation projects. The position requires strong mechanical and technical understanding, the ability to read and interpret blueprints, and hands-on experience with welding, cutting, and various power transmission systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on conveyors, centrifugal pumps, diaphragm pumps, mixers, overhead cranes, and lighting systems.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues involving gearboxes, hydraulics, pumps, and other production equipment.
- Carry out welding and fabrication tasks using stick, MIG, TIG, and torch welding methods to repair and modify equipment and structures.
- Utilize cutting torch and plasma cutter to cut, remove, and prepare metal components for fabrication and repair.
- Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, drawings, and maintenance documents to plan and execute repairs and installations.
- Install, align, and maintain motors and pumps, ensuring proper motor/pump alignment for reliable operation.
- Install and repair welded, threaded, and PVC piping systems used throughout the facility.
- Use basic shop equipment, including drill press, stationary band saw, pedestal grinder, and related tools to fabricate and repair parts.
- Support maintenance of rotary valves and dust collector systems, performing inspections and basic repairs as needed.
- Apply mechanical power transmission knowledge to service bearings and related components.
- Apply hydraulic power transmission knowledge to perform basic hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs.
- Apply basic pneumatic principles to maintain and troubleshoot pneumatic systems, including compressors, air treatment equipment, piping, hoses, fittings, valves, cylinders, and motors.
- Follow basic rigging principles and use rigging equipment safely when moving and installing heavy machinery and components.
- Complete preventive maintenance tasks and inspections to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Document maintenance activities accurately and communicate equipment status and issues to the maintenance team.
- Work collaboratively with maintenance employees, electricians, and millwrights to support production and implement improvements.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years of experience as a mechanic in an industrial manufacturing setting.
- Proficiency in mechanical troubleshooting, including gearboxes, hydraulics, and pumps.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints for mechanical systems and fabrication projects.
- Arc welding experience with the ability to perform welding and fabrication tasks.
- Hands-on experience using a cutting torch and plasma cutter for metal cutting and preparation.
- Experience with motor and pump alignment to ensure proper installation and operation.
- Experience with installation of welded, threaded, and PVC piping systems.
- Industrial fabrication experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to use basic shop equipment such as drill press, stationary band saw, and pedestal grinder.
- Basic knowledge of rotary valves and dust collector systems.
- Understanding of basic rigging principles and rigging equipment for moving and installing machinery.
- Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills across a variety of industrial equipment.
- Mechanical and technical understanding of mechanical fundamentals, including mechanics, lubrication, maintenance documents, pumps, piping systems, and welding/cutting processes.
- Knowledge of mechanical power transmission, including basic mechanics and bearings.
- Knowledge of hydraulic power transmission, including basic hydraulics and hydraulic troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of basic pneumatic systems, including pneumatic principles, reciprocating and rotary compressors, primary and secondary air treatment, piping, hoses, fittings, directional control valves, pressure-control valves, pneumatic cylinders, and pneumatic motors.
- Electrical troubleshooting, wiring, and repair skills related to maintenance work.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance in an industrial environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Millwright experience or background working alongside millwrights in a manufacturing plant.
- Experience working with mixers, overhead cranes, and similar heavy industrial equipment.
- Familiarity with lighting systems maintenance in an industrial facility.
- Comfort working from maintenance documents and technical manuals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on complex mechanical issues.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with maintenance team members and other departments.
- Ability to adapt to rotating shifts and changing priorities in a production environment.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $63107.20 - $69118.40/yr.
