Job Title: Plumbing Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Plumbing Engineer responsible for the design, coordination, layout, and selection of plumbing, fire protection, and medical gas systems and equipment. This role requires collaboration with other engineers and designers to resolve system design challenges.
Responsibilities
- Maintain positive communication with clients and contractors.
- Analyze project requirements to select appropriate mechanical systems considering costs and efficiency.
- Maintain a project Plumbing Design File in accordance with departmental standards.
- Survey existing facilities and document conditions and exact locations of plumbing piping and equipment. Convert these documents to electronic format using Revit or AutoCAD.
- Review architectural and mechanical documents to calculate plumbing requirements, submitting calculations for review and approval.
- Select plumbing equipment and coordinate selections requiring electricity with the Electrical Engineering Department.
- Layout plumbing systems in an organized manner and coordinate the location of piping and equipment with other building disciplines.
- Draft basic system design layouts, isometrics, schematics, and details using Revit or AutoCAD.
- Review submittals and equipment shop drawings as directed by the Mechanical Engineer.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in designing commercial or industrial plumbing systems.
- Proficiency in Revit.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred, though an associate's degree with experience is acceptable.
- Experience in Med Gas design is a plus.
- CPD or CPDT certification is desirable.
- Interest in Fire Protection Design.
Work Environment
The work environment is an open-office cubicle setting, part of a 32-person MEP Engineering company. The plumbing team consists of experienced designers, and the dress code is business casual. Hours are flexible, generally between 7-8 AM to 4-5 PM, with a one-hour lunch break. The company offers a hybrid work schedule, good benefits, and a supportive team atmosphere with monthly team events. The office is located on the north side of Indianapolis.
