Job Title: Construction Materials Technician


Job Description

A leading employee-owned, multi-disciplined Geotechnical Engineering & Testing firm is seeking a dedicated Construction Materials Technician. This role offers an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about growing their career in the construction industry.


Responsibilities

  • Review civil, architectural, and structural plans and specifications in preparation for field observations on construction sites.
  • Document field activities, observations, and testing results on construction projects, noting conformance with or deviation from project plans and specifications.
  • Conduct field testing of concrete and soil to ensure standards and specifications are met.
  • Perform laboratory testing of concrete and soil samples.
  • Communicate field and laboratory testing results with Construction Services and Geotechnical Project Management staff, general contractors, and clients.
  • Calibrate field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of experience working outdoors in a relevant field such as construction, farming, or environmental work.
  • Entry-level construction or civil experience, or a degree in construction, civil, geology, or environmental studies, or ongoing online courses in these areas.
  • Experience in construction inspection or Construction Materials Testing (CMT) is preferred.
  • Possession of an ACI certification is desirable.
  • Concrete inspection and nuclear density gauge experience are advantageous.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience with ASTM, AASHTO, or ISO standards is preferred.
  • Effective communication skills, both reading and writing, are necessary.
  • Proficiency in mathematics and experience using Microsoft Word and Excel are required.
  • Ability to lift 20 to 40 lbs routinely for field and lab samples and equipment is necessary.
  • Willingness to work outdoors is essential.
  • Preference for candidates with one or more active certificates such as Field Testing Grade 1, Strength Testing Technician, or Aggregate Testing.
  • Concrete testing experience is required if no ACI Certification is held.

Work Environment

The work environment primarily involves working in the field on construction sites, with occasional tasks in an office lab setting. It is a hands-on, dirty environment typical of construction sites. The worksite is located in Glendale, KY.
