Job Description
The Senior Civil Engineer leads complex civil engineering projects from initial planning through construction, with a strong focus on agricultural and heavy industrial site development. This role combines hands-on design work with project management, team leadership, and direct client interaction. The Senior Civil Engineer ensures that all designs meet applicable codes and standards while delivering high-quality, cost-effective solutions on schedule and within budget.
Responsibilities
- Manage all phases of civil engineering projects from conceptual planning through detailed design, permitting support, and construction.
- Lead civil design efforts for agricultural and heavy industrial site development, including site grading, drainage, stormwater management, and utility layout and coordination.
- Develop and refine site plans and land development designs that meet project objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the design of rail infrastructure, including rail spurs, loops, and ladder track systems, and coordinate with rail providers as needed.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong, long-term relationships.
- Develop, monitor, and manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables to ensure successful project execution.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and industry requirements across all project work.
- Perform detailed quality control reviews of plans, specifications, and engineering reports to maintain high technical standards.
- Supervise, mentor, and provide technical guidance to Engineers-in-Training (EITs) and technicians, supporting their professional development.
- Coordinate with internal team members and external stakeholders to resolve design issues and support smooth project delivery.
- Support business development efforts by contributing to proposals, client presentations, and ongoing client coordination.
- Collaborate with drafting staff to produce accurate and constructible drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in civil engineering design.
- Minimum 2+ years of project management experience.
- Demonstrated experience with site grading, drainage, and stormwater design for agricultural or heavy industrial projects.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil design and drafting.
- Strong background in civil design, land development, and site development.
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage technical staff, including EITs and technicians.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to manage client relationships effectively.
- Solid understanding of applicable civil engineering codes, standards, and industry practices.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while meeting deadlines and quality expectations.
- Experience with rail design, including rail spurs, loops, and ladder track systems.
- Experience coordinating with rail providers on design and implementation.
- Familiarity with permitting processes for industrial or agricultural facilities.
- Experience in transportation-related civil engineering projects.
- Professional development mindset with an interest in mentoring and growing technical staff.
- Experience working in industrial or agricultural environments and understanding their unique design challenges.
This is an onsite role working closely with a collaborative team of approximately 12 engineers within a company of just over 20 people, offering a tight-knit and supportive environment. You will use tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and other standard civil engineering software to deliver high-quality designs and documentation. The work involves regular interaction with internal team members, technicians, and EITs, as well as direct communication with clients and external stakeholders. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $150000.00/yr.
Benefits package coming next week after we have gone over the Direct Placement agreement.
