Job Description
The Sr Maintenance Planner Substation plays a vital role in enhancing the efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity of maintenance activities in substations. Working under the general direction of the Manager, Substation Planning & Scheduling, this position supports task coordination and job planning to ensure precision maintenance execution. This role can sit in Emporia or Independence, Kansas.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Regional Scheduler and Supervisor to communicate expectations for safe and efficient maintenance activities through the creation of complete work packages, including detailed work instructions, supporting documents, and resource estimates.
- Improve equipment availability and maintenance effectiveness by conducting pre-job coordination activities such as on-site walkdowns, organizing tasks, interfacing with internal and external customers, requesting clearances, and arranging material and equipment staging.
- Manage backlogged preventive, predictive, and corrective Substation Maintenance tasks based on their risk to equipment health, system reliability, safety, and the environment.
- Engage in ongoing reliability, availability, and maintainability improvement efforts including Preventative Maintenance Optimization (PMO), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Develop and continuously improve personal and departmental planning and scheduling processes by incorporating maintenance and reliability best practices and feedback from field personnel.
Essential Skills
- Expert knowledge of safe work practices regarding repair and maintenance of substation equipment such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, fuses, capacitors, distribution bus, and voltage regulators.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply information from equipment files, drawings, catalogs, reports, and manuals.
- Proficiency in performing basic mathematical computations related to planning, scheduling, estimating, and purchasing.
- High proficiency in using Cascade, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel applications.
- Strong technical writing skills and keyboarding competency.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma required; preference for technical degree, bachelor's degree, or related degree.
- Self-starter with excellent organizational and time/priority management skills.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a demanding team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, managers, customers, contractors, and other contacts.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Work Environment
The position involves working primarily in an office environment with occasional time spent in maintenance shops or at substations. A satisfactory work record, including good attendance, is essential.
