Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Geotechnical Engineer to lead the office’s operational, client, and technical goals, overseeing personnel within the Engineering, Testing, and Drilling divisions. This role involves strategic decision-making, financial performance monitoring, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the overall performance of the office, ensuring alignment with operational, client, and technical goals.
- Make strategic decisions affecting all personnel within the office, including facilities, engagement, and local marketing.
- Monitor and analyze the financial performance of the office and business unit, providing regular feedback to management.
- Evaluate employee performance objectively and set goals to improve technical, project management, and client service skills.
- Manage the personnel mix to achieve office goals through recruiting, hiring, and terminations.
- Collaborate with employees at all levels, particularly other unit managers and marketing staff, to set direction for client pursuits and marketing goals.
- Direct client contracting in accordance with the Authority Grant Policy.
- Monitor and enhance employee project management skills, focusing on financial performance and client retention.
- Encourage cross-functional, multi-discipline work teams to establish a preferred work and consulting environment.
Essential Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and legal documents.
- Proficiency in responding to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members.
- Proven capability to manage success and conflict within teams and with individual personnel.
- Understanding and adherence to internal systems and practices, with the ability to train and manage others.
- Effective leadership through a service/servant leadership style.
- Lead by example through core values: Safety, Service, Opportunity, Ownership, and Recognition.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; or ten+ years of related industry experience and/or training.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification is flexible.
- Experience in civil engineering, rail, and business development.
- Relocation options available.
Work Environment
The role offers flexible scheduling, though it is not a true hybrid position. The candidate will manage a team of 5-7 Engineers and 12-15 CMTs, reporting to the Vice President. The position involves business development with local clients, requiring strong community connections and the ability to forecast project pipelines. The office primarily focuses on rail-related projects.
