Circulating Nurse (Floating Position)
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Circulating Nurse to join our operating room team. This fill-in/float position requires the ability to assist in various aspects outside the surgery room, ensuring effective communication and smooth operation of surgical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Provide communication between team members in the surgical field and staff/family outside the operating room.
- Inform the Surgical Nursing Director of case progress and report any unusual circumstances.
- Obtain needed supplies and equipment for each specific procedure.
- Ensure adequate amounts of surgical and anesthetic supplies are in the operating room prior to scheduled cases.
- Check suctions, lights, and other needed equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Arrange operating rooms for specific operative procedures.
- Perform scrub and needle counts with the Scrub Nurse, record count and sign immediately, and report unresolved counts to OR Director.
- Receive faulty instruments from the Scrub Nurse, mark appropriately, and return them to the workroom.
- Demonstrate familiarity with supplies, equipment, and medications on the arrest cart and assist effectively in the event of cardiac arrest.
- Anticipate needs of the surgical team and supply needed items to the sterile field.
- Prepare for the following case by checking supplies, doctor’s preference cards, instruments, and any additional equipment.
- Receive specimen from Scrub Nurse, place it in an appropriate container, label it properly, and complete pathology slip.
- Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment using detergents and disinfectant solutions approved by the facility.
- Sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies using ultrasonic cleaner, steam sterilizer, and Steris.
- Report malfunctioning equipment to the Director of Surgical Nursing.
- Perform routine cleaning of ultrasonic units, sterilizers, and Steris.
- Distribute supplies and stock sterile storage areas.
- Rotate sterile supplies and remove outdated items.
- Assist with receiving and storing supplies.
- Dispose of contaminated needle containers in red plastic (contaminated) trash bags.
- Order anesthesia supplies and drugs using stock lists.
Essential Skills
- Current licensure in the State of Kansas as a Registered Nurse.
- Minimum of three years progressive work experience in an Operating Room, including both clinical and management skills.
- Current BLS certification.
- ACLS or ALS and PALS certifications or ability to obtain them within six months of employment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a clinical office environment.
- Ability to speak and understand other languages.
- Experience in ENT, Orthopedics, GI, or General Surgery is a plus.
Work Environment
The role involves working 4 nine-hour shifts during the day from Monday to Friday with rotating days off. Join one of the largest privately owned physician specialty hospitals in the area, offering the opportunity to transition to a permanent role if it’s a good fit.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Leawood, KS.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.00 - $43.00/hr.
