Job Title: CNC Mill Machinist – 2nd Shift
Job Description
This position is for an experienced CNC Mill Machinist on 2nd shift, responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting CNC milling machines in a precision production environment. You will train on 1st shift with a flexible schedule before moving to a steady 2nd shift that includes built-in overtime in a 50-hour work week.
Responsibilities
- Set up and run CNC milling machines independently, including fixtures, vises, and rotary setups, to produce high-quality parts to specification.
- Maintain part and process specifications by observing tooling, taking accurate measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, adjusting controls, and replacing worn tools as needed.
- Read and interpret customer blueprints and company operation sheets to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances.
- Utilize machine control systems to set tools, enter and adjust tool offsets, and verify correct program selection and execution.
- Follow detailed setup instructions, including proper installation and alignment of fixtures, vises, and rotary devices to ensure repeatable and accurate machining.
- Collaborate directly with Programming and Inspection teams to troubleshoot issues and adjust CNC programs when required to improve quality or efficiency.
- Use precision inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, and related gauges to verify part dimensions and ensure conformance to specifications.
- Operate and document work in compliance with AS9100 and ISO 9001 requirements, including proper documentation, revision control, traceability, and lot control.
- Monitor machine performance and part quality throughout the run, making adjustments to feeds, speeds, and tooling to maintain consistent output.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with shop policies and procedures.
Essential Skills
- At least 3 years of experience setting up and running CNC milling machines in a production or job shop environment.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and operation sheets to determine machining requirements.
- Hands-on experience setting up CNC mills, including fixtures, vises, rotaries, and changeover of tooling.
- Ability to enter and adjust tool and work offsets in machine control systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for machining processes, including detecting malfunctions and making appropriate adjustments.
- Proficient use of precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, and indicators.
- Experience working within AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality systems, including documentation and traceability requirements.
- Solid understanding of CNC programs and the ability to work with programmers to make necessary program adjustments.
- Comfort working in a machine shop production environment on 2nd shift with built-in overtime.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in advanced manufacturing or similar precision machining environments.
- Familiarity with a variety of CNC machine controls and their setup procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate parts.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with programming, inspection, and production teams.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality standards.

Work Environment
This role is based in a typical production machine shop environment on the shop floor, working with CNC milling equipment and precision measurement tools. The schedule is a 2nd shift, Monday through Friday, from 4:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., with a built-in 50-hour work week that includes overtime. Initial training takes place on 1st shift with a flexible schedule before transitioning to the permanent 2nd shift. The environment is hands-on and fast-paced, focused on precision machining and adherence to AS9100 and ISO 9001 standards.E
